Our Diagnostic Process

Our diagnostic process is meant to give our customers a reliable recommendation for repairs or other services. We strive to complete as thorough a diagnostic as possible. Our diagnostic testing aims to evaluate the health of the core components of a computer system, defined as the processor, memory, motherboard and a single hard drive on which the operating system of the computer is installed. As diagnostics for a single computer systems is a flat rate service, not including these items at check in does not alter the pricing of the diagnostic service, and may in fact delay the results of diagnostic testing. The testing of multiple hard drives in a single computer system is included as deemed appropriate by our technicians and staff, and your diagnostic report may not include the testing of more than a single drive. Exceptions to standard diagnostic testing include if the system does not power on, requires extensive electrical testing, or if the system cannot perform all testing due to nonstandard system configurations. An example of such a situation is if a computer system does not power on, and requires substantial disassembly in order to access the hard drive for separate testing. In these rare cases our technicians will complete as much testing as possible to make a reasonable recommendation for repair. Non-standard system configurations such as these are also taken into consideration when our technicians make recommendations for service.

Some factors that may increase the time it takes to complete your diagnostic are as follows: Extensive electrical testing, symptoms that only intermittently occur, heat issues, and extensive hard drive testing. If you have not received an update or diagnostic report by 36 hours after check-in, feel free to contact us to check the status of your testing. When you call, your diagnostic technician completes a status update interview with the head technician or customer service representative, and this process causes a short delay in your testing. For that reason, please allow 36 hours before contacting us regarding your diagnostic report. Our standard procedure is to contact you when the diagnostic service is completed, so contacting our customer service team for your report is not required.

Symptom information submitted via online check-in is used to guide our technicians during their diagnosis only, and does not limit the scope of your testing in any way. Outside of core components, our diagnostic also verifies the following: that the system has a functional optical drive or is capable of utilizing an external drive; and the system is clear of known infections or other malware.

What may be excluded from your report: the functionality of minor parts, such as wireless cards or networking equipment, 56k modem or other telephony equipment, functionality of external video/monitor port, functionality of serial ("COM") or parallel ports. Typically, if the functionality of the device can be replicated with a USB attached item, the device is not included in your final diagnostic report, but can generally be tested at your request. Please notify our technicians through the "Symptom" field of your online submission of any additional devices outside of your core components you would like to be tested. Testing is supervised by the head technician, and the scope of testing of a notebook PC outside of the target core components is at Paulding Networking's discretion.

Shipping Department Policies and Guidelines

When receiving your notebook computer, our shipping department will verify the model and other information about your PC. If no obvious shipping damage has occurred, our shipping department will accept the delivery of your notebook PC without contest to the carrier. Model information and included accessories are confirmed by the shipping department at the time of receiving your notebook PC, and this information will be compared to the information you submitted via online check-in. If discrepancies are found, or if the information that our technicians have regarding your notebook PC is different than what you believe was shipped, please notify us immediately. Paulding Networking is not liable for the damage or loss of shipped items; however we will make our best efforts to assist you in having issues resolved with the carrier.

Deliveries received at the end of the business day may be confirmed the next morning. Testing may begin immediately after the contents are verified.

Paulding Networking reserves the right to halt or refuse service at any time. Equipment received in an unsafe or unsanitary condition will be isolated and shipped back at notebook owner's expense. If unsafe to ship via standard carriers (UPS, Fedex), the notebook owner is required to make arrangements with a specialty shipping company to handle the shipment. Conditions that are considered to be unsafe or unsanitary include:
  1. Equipment that has suffered a spill of chemicals or other substances. Please seek a local disaster recovery team for assistance with these cases, as most spills are time sensitive and often cannot be recovered from after being shipped.
  2. Equipment that has been contaminated with bodily or other fluids.
  3. Equipment that is extremely dirty or unsanitary in a manner not indicative of normal use.
  4. Equipment that has been kept in conditions that has allowed insects or other pests to be contained or nest inside of the equipment.

These items are sometimes covered by warranties that range from 2 months to a year; however this limitation is only for select models, and also varies by manufacturer.

Modifications from Service

During service, our technicians may be required to make modifications to the housing or casing of your notebook PC or its peripherals/accessories. By agreeing to these Terms and Conditions, you verify that you are aware that such modifications may be undertaken by our technicians during the service to your PC without notifying you if your service requires such modifications before or during service. These modifications are often made to increase the safety and functionality of your equipment, and are essential to the completion of some services, such as the DC-2 Chassis Mount DC Jack repair.

Check-in Policy

All diagnostic services must be pre-paid. Service requests and orders can only be placed through the online system, and shipments generated through this system are insured at a flat rate of $999 through the carrier (UPS). The only exception to the online-only service orders are for orders that require more than $999 of shipping insurance. It is the customer's responsibility to contact our customer service staff to place orders that require additional insurance.

Please package your notebook computer and AC adapter well. At least 2 inches of shipping-grade packing materials must be used to ensure the safe arrival of your notebook. When in doubt, please utilize a local UPS Store to purchase appropriate packing or allow their staff to pack your notebook for you. These precautions will allow your shipping insurance to be in full effect, and will help safeguard your notebook PC during shipping.

Notebooks that are not packed properly, show signs of damage in transit due to improper packing, or if when opened are found to have not been packed properly will either be immediately refused at arrival or, if found to be internally packed in a dangerous or improper fashion, will be tested at your request to the fullest ability of our technicians and a report will indicate any damage the notebook has suffered during transit.

Check-out Policy

After diagnosis, an invoice for all products and services you have selected will be generated for either direct credit card processing or via Google Checkout, based on your preferences. Services, including return shipping, will need to be paid in full before your notebook PC is shipped back to you. Customers have two-weeks from the time our technicians make a good-faith effort to notify you by phone or e-mail that services have been completed to submit payment for services before a late fee of $10 per day for 7 additional days will be charged. At 3 weeks (21 days) from your service completion, abandoned articles and equipment will become property of Paulding Networking Computer Repair. The amount of your service will still be owed at that time, as the collection of abandoned equipment is not considered by Paulding Networking as payment for services rendered.
